haymarketbooks books
www.haymarketbooks.org

Haymarket Books is a nonprofit, progressive book distributor and publisher, a project of the Center for Economic Research and Social Change. We take inspiration and courage from our namesakes, the Haymarket Martyrs, who gave their lives fighting for a better world. Their 1886 struggle for the eight-hour day, which gave us May Day, the international workers’ holiday, reminds workers around the world that ordinary people can organize and struggle for their own liberation. These struggles continue today across the globe—struggles against oppression, exploitation, hunger, and poverty.

It was August Spies, one of the Martyrs who was targeted for being an immigrant and an anarchist, who predicted the battles being fought to this day. “If you think that by hanging us you can stamp out the labor movement,” Spies told the judge, “then hang us. Here you will tread upon a spark, but here, and there, and behind you, and in front of you, and everywhere, the flames will blaze up. It is a subterranean fire. You cannot put it out. The ground is on fire upon which you stand.”

international socialist review
www.isreview.org

The International Socialist Review is a bi-monthly magazine published by the Center for Economic Research and Social Change. Since 1998, the ISR has offered a unique analysis of theory, history and international struggle that makes it an indispensable resource for anyone interested in rebuilding the Left.

"The International Socialist Review provides us something I can not find in other Left periodicals: in-depth analyses, world-wide coverage, from a bold socialist perspective. It more than maintains the fine tradition of the ISR of a hundred years ago."

--Howard Zinn

"Through these years of conformism and subordination to doctrinal orthodoxy, ISR has served as an independent voice, offering thoughtful analysis and critical perspective. Congratulations on ten years of accomplishment, with hopes of much more to come."

--Noam Chomsky

socialist worker newspaper

The powers that be have media outlets to tell their side of the story. We need ours. SocialistWorker.org aims to be a place to find news, analysis and commentary from the left. As a newspaper and now a daily Web site, Socialist Worker has been committed to giving a voice to those struggling for a better world.

We also seek to present a socialist analysis of world news and events, and to keep alive the rich and too-often-hidden history of working-class struggle and the socialist tradition. You'll find left-wing and Marxist analyses of important questions of the day from a broad range of voices on the left.

SocialistWorker.org is proud to feature articles not only by well-known figures on the left, but also activists involved in day-to-day struggles, large and small--writing about protests, pickets, meetings and other actions in their area, and taking up the issues and questions they face. We welcome contributions to our Labor News and Activist News sections--and to the ongoing discussions in our Readers' Views department.

international socialist organization
www.internationalsocialist.org

The International Socialist Organization (ISO) is committed to building an organization that participates in the struggles for justice and liberation today--and, ultimately, for a future socialist society.

The ISO has branches across the country whose members are involved in helping to build a number of struggles: the movement to stop war and occupation, fights against racism and anti-immigrant scapegoating, the struggle for women's rights like the right to choose abortion, opposing anti-gay bigotry, and standing up for workers' rights.

We see our task as building an independent socialist organization with members organizing in our workplaces, our schools and our neighborhoods to bring socialist ideas to the struggles we are involved in today, and the vision of a socialist world in the future.
